Summer adventures across Kamchatka

Friday, February 17, 2012

Somewhere in the middle of nowhere, onshore of vast Pacific Ocean there is a mysterious northern land called Kamchatka. There from breaking wave and fog fiery volcanoes, covered with bunches of snow, are mounted up high in the sky. The surrounding clouds and Steller’s sea eagles hover high above of their tops, and at the bottom bright, soft carpet of tundra stretch to the horizon.

Among streams, flowers and herbs the huge brown bear slowly goes on fishing. On banks of the fast rivers it is awaited by numerous red salmon stocks. And behind the bald mountain Koryaks gaze the herds of reindeers. These swarthy faced inhabitants have created the surprising northern culture, saved up to now.

Local tour operators will help customize your travel to the country of northern legends and fairy tales according to the specific preferences of the tourist. One can go down skiing from the top of a volcano to its green bottom, lifting a bunch of snow splashes, and then bathe in reviving hot springs. By the way summer in Kamchatka are paragliding, diving, climbing on tops of spitfire mountains-giants, pedestrian, bicycle, equestrian tours to the areas of wild virgin nature, watching over the life of wild animals and birds. Tourist routes are stretched across the whole peninsula, winding among bald mountains, overgrown with stone birches and mountain pines. They will lead tourists to the real wonders of nature: will get to the crater of the Mutnovsky Volcano, will show the way to acid lakes of Gorely Volcano, where with every little step one can constantly feel the breath of our living planet, or to the mysterious Valley of Geysers with its streams of boiling water and vapours pulled out of bowels of the earth, to unique Kurile Lake where one can watch, staying in small but safe distance, over the bears gracefully catching red salmon.

In his or her boat tour across the Pacific Ocean one can see the sea beauty – a cowfish, or taste freshly-caught crabs, urchins, to take part in halibut fishing and enjoy sea landscapes, watching over curious seals and amusing sea parrots – tufted puffins

Thousands of years in Kamchatka land lived highly organized community of hunters and fishermen, created the second to none culture. Even today natives continue gathering, fishing, hunting, grazing deer and create unique works of art. Women decorate kukhlyanka (outer garment made of buck skins as a shirt) with national ornaments, men do the mysterious carvings on walrus bones, on horns of bighorn sheeps and tusks of a mammoth. One can plunge into original culture of the native people, having chosen guided tour in Itelmen village Pimchakh at the foot of mountain Ostraya (Sharp) in Sosnovka settlement, Elizovo District; in Even Nomad camp «Menedek» in Anavgay settlement, Bystrinsky District and Nomad Folkoric Koryak Camp «Chau-Chiv», in ethnic centre «Dorova» (Oklan Village, Penzhinsky District) or Koryak Nomand Camp «Kainyran».

Located in picturesque places far from city vanity, these centers of original culture preserve treasures of ancestors, tell us about history, traditions, ceremonies, arts and crafts of inhabitants of Kamchatka. Therefore national folk music bands which revive in reality myths and legends in their performances are precious. These are folk troups «Nulgur», «Nurgenek», «Elll’vel’», «Or’yakan», «Mengo », «Veem» and many others.
