Kamchatka territory was founded on the 1st of July in 2007 as a result of a union of Kamchatka region and Koryaksky autonomous region according to the Federal constitutional law from 12.07.2006 №2-FKZ “About the creating in the part of Russian Federation a new subject of Russian Federation as a result of a union of Kamchatka territory and Koryaksky autonomous region”. On the occasion of the birthday of Kamchatka territory festivities are held in any inhabited part of the peninsula on this day. The festival begins from the hoisting the flag of Kamchatka territory and a hymn performance. On the Theater Square a festival concert program is organized which ends by the bright fireworks. Different exhibitions are opened during the whole day. Photo and drawing exhibitions telling about the history and Kamchatka nowadays, folk quizzes, music and poetical evenings, book exhibitions, meetings, concerts, the movie watching about Kamchatka and sport competitions are held in the municipal educational institutions. On the north of the peninsula native people also celebrate the holyday: reindeer racing, lasso throwing, wrestling, national cuisine contest and national dance competition.
