The 1st Sunday of June
Day of the first fish is an ancient ritual festival of the native inhabitants of Kamchatka. Even nowadays this festival is respected by all the natives of the peninsula: Itelmens, Evens, Koryaks and Aleuts. The festival is held for good and successful fishing. During this festival it’s necessary to perform some rituals: to pass trough a wooden arch to clean yourself from the evil spirits, to make a gift for fire, sing the ancient songs using the tambourine. The festival of the first is traditionally held not only in the administrative centre but also it was held in the public districts for the first time, and this festival was held in all the settlements in the Tighil municipal district. From 2010 the festival “Day of the first fish” got a status of an official festival.
