The first Sunday of March
The reindeer herder’s day is traditionally the first to be celebrated in Bystrinsky district. And after that such festivals are celebrated in the other regions of the peninsular. At this day the best reindeer farm workers are honored. A lot of events are celebrated under this day: an exhibition of photographs and child’s drawings called “Kamchatka is my krai”, the concerts of native people teams such as “Nulgur”, “Nurgenek”, “Oryakan”, Bystrinsky district craftsmen’ applied arts wares trade fair, relay race. Since 2009 The North Multi-discipline Competitions were revived (the Competitions were conducted for the last time in the end of 1970th). A lot of teams from different districts of Kamchatka take part in the Competitions. This disciplines are included in the program: a triple national jump, jumps over sledges, running on broken terrain with a stick, tynzyan (chaut) flinging for polecats, axe flinging. At the end of the festival native people will treat you to national meals – reindeer shurpa, tea, flat cakes – and common dance “Norgali”. The reindeer herder’s day got the official festival status in 2010.
